The Debate Life

The Debate Life:

I haven't had much time to blog lately, let alone do anything else because I AM IN DEBATE! Anyone who has every participated in Speech and Debate can no doubt relate to both the tremendous amount of work and the camaraderie inherent to our 'sport'. I have previously debated in Public Forum debate, where my teammate and I would work together against an opponent team. Public Forum was great, but as school schedules became busier, I realized that perhaps going solo would serve me well, and I switch to Lincoln Douglas debate this year. Lincoln Douglas had been a lot of fun and a great fit for me. Along with oral debate, I again participated in a written public policy debate competition sponsored by New York University and the Brewer Foundation. This competition is referred to as International Public Policy Forum or IPPF. IPPF is a year long written debate tournament on an assigned topic. Teams are invited to submit a qualifying round paper in which they explore the topic in detail, writing either in support or opposition of the resolution. This years topic is: 'Resolved: U.S. abdication of international leadership creates dangerous global instability.' We are a small but mighty team of three girls up against schools from all over the world so wish us luck!! If you would like to follow our progress, you may do so here: www.ippfdebate.com
